During the first half of 2014, the Vegetation Ecology and Propagation Laboratory research team of Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (UNIMONTES) - supervised by Prof. Maria das Dores Magalhães Veloso - initiated a project in the vereda by marking portions of land in order to monitor the progressional state of the flora in the vereda and the native tree planting conditions.
The project had financial sponsoring by RIMA INDUSTRIAL S/A, which also provided personnel from the São Joaquim unit so that the sowing and planting of seedlings would occur in a planned manner.
RPPN Alessandra Bello Vicintin’s employees were responsible for keeping the seedlings in a temporary shelter until they were to be planted in the Buriti Grosso vereda and for helping during the planting activities. 7471 native trees were planted, including 13 families and 18 species.
The RPPN is located in the cerrado (Brazilian savanna) region, which is the most predominant vegetation in the state of Minas Gerais.
